The Beginning Of A Rebellion?

WASHINGTON - SEPTEMBER 24: U.S. Sen. Hillary ...

Evan Bayh has announced that he will not seek re-election for his US Senate seat representing Indiana.  This is big news, and completely unexpected.  As of three days ago, Bayh was leading in the polls by 20 points.  In every poll done, matching him against various opponents, he had the race sewn up.  Considered a centrist, he has found himself at odds with leaders within the Democratic party.  He has expressed dissatisfaction with the Obama policies and agenda.  He endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2008, and there was even speculation about a Hillary Clinton-Evan Bayh ticket for 2008.

I believe that Evan Bayh has realized that the Democratic party has been infiltrated by the radical left, and knows this can’t stand, for both his own beliefs, and for the American people.  Just five days ago, on February 10, a story came out about Al Gore’s advocacy group for global warming came out with ads targeting Evan Bayh, Blanche Lincoln, and Claire McCaskill for their supposed luke-warm support for “clean jobs” legislation.

Add all this to Bill Clinton’s health scare last week, and to me, it adds up to a new urgency for those ‘old-time’ Democrats.  The ones who recognize that the Democratic party has been taken over by the radical Left; the ones who know the American people do not want and will not support radical leftist Marxist-flavored policies; and the ones, who, in my opinion, do love America and, while I will continue to disagree with many of their stands, are not envisioning a “fundamental transformation of America.”

I think there’s a move afoot, a new game.  I think there’s a move within the Dems to re-take their party, and I think that Bayh and the Clintons have been talking.  Bill’s time for being healthy and active may be limited to a few years; the uncertainty has been brought back to the forefront.  I think they know that the time to move is now.

I predict a Hillary Clinton-Evan Bayh ticket for 2012.

That ticket would be much better than we have now and I’m not a Hillary fan. Anything would be better than what we have now. Reid and Pelosi need to exit stage left. Just saying. :)

Well the scum also rises and in the dem party the marxist scum has risen to the top. Will they go quietly? Ha. Good one. For little zero to be replaced as the candidate in 12 will require events we can hardly imagine. Will they play the war card? Probably so. Will martial law be imposed? Yes, if they can get away with it. In the midst of an ongoing depression and given their absolute conviction they know best one has to think the chances of an upcoming crisis are excellent. That light ahead is not the end of the tunnel.

We boomers have allowed a lot of this to happen on our watch; it’s time we started to undo the damage. Faint heart never won fair maiden.

I love it! Run liberals Run, we will vote you out anyways as soon as possible. Democrats will be slaughtered (figuratively speaking of course, lol) for many elections cycles to come! Great piece and keep up the good fight my friend!

And just think, a year ago they were virtually all pronouncing conservatism dead! Now liberal Democrats are dropping like flies
so they don’t lose in November, and moderates are leaving because they can no longer stomach the stench of their own party!

Hillary-Bayh in 2012? Maybe.
I have doubts as to how principled a stand Bayh is taking: He comes from a political class that sees “principled stands” in terms of tactics and strategies for self-advancement. The odds of him keeping his Senate seat were getting dimmer as every hour ticked away, so retiring was the smart thing to do. Will he run in 2012? Only if he saw that either he had a chance of winning or of prolonging his political career.
Hillary has lived her whole life to be president, so I don’t see her backing away if the chance were offered her. However, I do not see her getting into a primary fight with Obama unless there were a significant draft-Hillary movement. On the other hand, it is quite possible that Obama will claim victory, refuse to run for a second term, and then sulk away into the twilight.
Interesting times we live in. I really have no clue how any of this will pan out. If so much were not on the line, I would break out the popcorn and sit back to enjoy the spectacle. However, we cannot afford to let this become a spectator sport.

Thanks all of you for your comments. Bayh probably isn’t being as principled as I might have made him sound. Most likely you’re right, he’s doing what he thinks will benefit him the most. As for Hillary taking on Obama, she would need Soros’ blessing for that. Either, as you said, Obama would find a “respectable and noble” reason to not run again, clearing the way for Hillary, or, some kind of major upheaval within the party would have to happen.

I honestly can’t predict what all will happen. I hope for the best, and hope it won’t be so bad that I deplete my stash of canned goods and Lipton’s loose leaf black pekoe tea. I do hope that the Democrats continue to be so bumbling and out-of-touch that they fall into complete disarray.

Wanpeirui, you are absolutely right that we can’t just kick back and enjoy the show. We must stay vigilant, prolific, and active at the local level to not squander any possible advantage in momentum.

Thanks again all of you.

Good one, Pup…I hope you don’t deplete your stash of canned goods and Lipton’s loose leaf black pekoe tea either!! Maybe I can put some in my stash just in case you need some, eh?

Conservative Pup February 18, 2010 at 8:54 pm

Hey Kathy, that’d be great! Loose leaf only, please. The only way to make tea. :)

One measure of how abhorrent the Obama administration is to those of sane mind is the degree to which the Clintons have become less malodorous to many on the right. But let us not forget the malignancy that was and is the Bill and Hillary selfishness, a selfishness that was so corrosive to our great institutions and ideals. Theirs was a particular kind of soiling of those things which we hold sacred, including the office of the Presidency. They spent the Reagan peace dividend in its entirety in an 8-year bacchanal – an orgy of disrespect (and I do not speak of sexual matters in this context) that masked the growing seeds of destruction that thundered toward the end, with the tech crash and 9/11 principal among them. It is my great hope that the Clintons fade away from political life and are not allowed to do any further damage to all we hold dear.
