I never burned a bra, but I used to call myself a feminist. My subscription to Ms. Magazine was always up-to-date, and in the beginning, I can remember usually enjoying the rag publication. A few years ago, for the first time in over a decade, I didn’t renew my subscription. It had dawned on me that I hadn’t enjoyed any of the articles in a long time; in fact, I could hardly stand to read them anymore. Actually, I hadn’t even looked at the previous six or seven issues.
My thoughts back then was not that I wasn’t a ‘feminist‘ any longer, but rather that the so-called feminist movement had become stale and had narrowed their focus to one lone issue: keeping abortion legal, easy to obtain, and inexpensive or even free to any woman wanting one. I could tell that they thought this mission of theirs was a noble one, for the sake of women’s rights and freedoms.
But, since I believe that ‘fetus‘ is the medical term for a baby still in the womb, and not a glob of unwanted tissue, I was not interested at all in the turn they took.
And, since then, over and over again, I have continued to notice that some of the most horrific crimes and abuse of women all over the world get not a word from NOW. They can’t be bothered to take a stand, unless it involves abortion in some way.
Until now.
Now they’ve taken a stand against a new foe. Women. To be specific, women who don’t think like they do.
To be even more specific, Sarah Palin. And all those other women who are running for office whom Gov. Palin has endorsed.
They would rather spend their money and time opposing women who hold a different point of view, than supporting like-minded women like themselves who are running for office.
Tammy Bruce says it better, and funnier, than I can, and I hope you’ll read her post. No one is more qualified to speak of the women who make up the women’s movement, and no one has more credibility in this area.

Yeah, I just wish the NOW would just rename themselves The National Organization of Liberal Woman. They certainly don’t speak for me or stand up for my values. As a matter of fact, they think I am like a man. Go figure!
