The Right Stuff….

I’m so proud of Carrie Prejean.  When asked her opinion about a current divisive political issue during the Miss USA pageant, she took the more difficult path of honesty.  Some might have chosen the easier, more traveled path of evasiveness or outright dishonesty, but she chose the “road less traveled.”  She gave her opinion in an almost apologetic way, stating clearly that she didn’t wish to offend anyone.

But those always-ready-to-be-offended took extreme umbrage and began the attack.  These attacks were mostly on the level of 3rd graders hurling nonsensical insults her way regardless of any truth or even originality.

Today Carrie got her vindication, via Donald Trump who owns the Miss USA pageant and is the big boss.  Mr. Trump clearly and unequivocally stated that Ms. Prejean would remain Miss California.  Carrie then gave some remarks to the crowd, and I was even more impressed with her than I had been.

Her statements were thoughtful, unapologetic, and forgiving.  I was most moved when she spoke of her grandfather, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and how he had fought for the freedoms of all of us, and how he told her to never let anyone take her freedoms away.  The passion in her voice was genuine and said far more than her mere words.

Whether you agree with Ms. Prejean’s opinion or not, you cannot deny her courage in giving it.  She did not grab the microphone at the pageant and insist that her opinion be heard.  She was asked and she answered.  It is, after all, the very same opinion that President Obama holds, and is also the same opinion that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed.  Yet, when these two people were campaigning for their party’s presidential nomination, I don’t remember any protests or the kind of ugly statements made about Obama or Clinton that have been made about Prejean.

So I say, good for her.  And good for Donald Trump.  He is a man with whom I sometimes disagree, but today I fully supported his decision and his statements about Carrie and her right to express her own opinion without being punished for it.  When Trump was taking questions from the press, and in his own blunt and to-the-point way telling them when their questions were “stupid” I had a brief longing for him to be our president.

I liked what Dennis Miller said on the O’Reilly show tonight:  “How often does someone get to stand up for their God like that?”  What a great way to put it.

I wish Carrie well and suspect that she has a bright future ahead of her.  One thing is certain: any potential employer need not wonder about her character.

I believe she made her grandfather proud, and honored his service with her own courage.

Great article!!! Carrie Prejean is a very courageous woman who stood up for her right to free speech. She expressed an opinion and people who disagreed with her answer spewed hate and vile things at her. Whether you disagree with a person or not every person deserves respect. Donald Trump showed great class today by going against what the left wanted and letting Miss CA keep her crown.

I’m glad things turned out as they did. Gives me a new respect for “the Donald” LOL … One of the few times that spotlighted events came out ON TOP according to TRUTH and VALUES, something that this particular nation seemingly needs to desperately search for on a consistent basis.

I applaud the resilience of this young woman! I have a daughter entering college in the Fall and I pray that she will have the courage and conviction to stand firm in the face of left-wing hatred. Personally, I believe Perez Hilton should face hate crime charges. He referred to her in the most vile manner – and the so-called women’s groups stood by in silent support for his rantings. Perez should know that THE MAJORITY of Americans DO NOT support gay marriage.
