The Other Half Of The Problem…

by Conservative Pup on February 13, 2009

While channel-surfing last night, I stopped off for a few moments at Comedy Central.  Most of the time the so-called comedians aren’t to my liking, but every now and then there will be one who is relatively clean with an actual sense of humor.

On screen was a youngish woman and it was clear from the start that she would not become one of my favorites.  I was just about to move on in my surfing when she mentioned Sarah Palin.  I decided to see what she had to say.

This comedian, and I use the word loosely as this woman was not funny, proceeded to “joke” about the Governor, her children, and baby Trig for the next few minutes.  She made “jokes” that were crude, vulgar, and just plain nasty in every sense.  What she said about Trig was unrepeatable, and both politically and morally incorrect.  Her remarks about the youngest son of Sarah were a direct and harsh insult to every family who has a physically or mentally challenged child, and in particular to those families who have a child born with Downs syndrome.

I was disgusted, stunned, and chilled.

But it wasn’t the woman on stage who disgusted, stunned, and chilled me.

It was the audience reaction.

They laughed and cheered.  Not just at the Sarah Palin jokes, but especially at the terrible things said about Trig.  Laughed, cheered, and applauded.

It made me sick.

It wasn’t a huge crowd, but whatever venue they were in was full, mostly youngish people from the shots of the crowd.  College types, and those who have been out of college for a few years.  Well-dressed, fairly intelligent-looking kids out for a night of fun and good times.

This is what we are up against, people.  Finding good conservative candidates to run in 2010 won’t be enough; we must find a way to educate and inform the other half of our countrymen and women who are operating under the assumption that what they know is true and correct, while getting their information from one-sided sources who have their own progressive agenda.

I believe that this is going to be our biggest challenge in the coming years.  For no matter how great, how fantastic our candidates are, there must be more than half the country who wants that kind of leadership and representation.

How do we reach these types?  Are they reachable?  Are they changeable?  Are they salvageable?

I believe they are.  I believe most of them are simply ill-informed and still searching for their beliefs.  The only thing I know to do right now, this very moment, is to write this blog, and pray that God can use it in some way to change the thinking of a few people.  If each of us conservative bloggers can change the thinking of a few people, either by our own words or by links to other sites that might be just what the person is looking for, then that is how we win in 2010.

God bless Sarah Palin, her family, and especially little Trig.  And may God have mercy on and change those with cruel hearts who ridicule the good, and the vulnerable among us.

You are so right Pup, and we don’t need to wait till 2010. We need to start to let our “legislators” know how we feel, and we need to let the sponsors of this kind of disgusting nonsense know how we feel and ask them to remove their support of this trash.

Thanks

Hi Pup, I have to believe that, although touted loudly, these attitudes are not those of mainstream America. This is Hollywood trying to make a buck. And yes, these days young people and college types are searching and getting all their information from clods and radicals. But they haven’t actually experienced real life yet…and they will. And things will happen to them…real life will happen…and then things like this won’t seem so funny. But it certainly does give credence to the theory that if the propagandaists can get to them while they are young, they can influence the whole generaton…and I believe that…I think our recent election has proven that the teaching methods of people like Bill Ayers are working…for a time. I am optimistic (and maybe I shouldn’t be) that in the end, the good guys always win. (I watched a lot of Westerns as a child.)

Hi there “George”, :)

Thanks for coming by! Thanks too for your comment and I totally agree with you. We need to be calling our legislators, both federal and state, anytime, ANYTIME, we have a comment, question, or concern about something. It may sound silly but I have my 2 senators, my 5 reps (I call all of the OK ones, not just the one from my district), and Pelosi and Reid in my cell phone. Not on speed dial, :) , but in there so I can call them without having to stop and look up numbers.

Hope you and yours are fine. Talk to you soon.

Kathy,
You are so right about how real life can change people. And you’re right that these young people haven’t yet experienced real life. I am generally an optimist too, though it may not have sounded like it in the above post. I truly believe that lots more than half the country are good and decent people, young people included. I do think that at least a third or half of those are simply misinformed and deliberately misguided by their professors, teachers, and news media. Those are the ones we have a great chance to open their eyes.

I watched a LOT of westerns too growing up and still love them. I love any story where good defeats evil. I do believe that good does defeat evil in the real world too. Thanks for your comment, you helped remind me of things I need to remember.
