The Oklahoma Governor’s Race

“Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain,
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet, When the wind comes right behind the rain..”

I love our state song.  From the Rodgers and Hammerstein legendary musical “Oklahoma!” the words are perfect.

I’ve always been proud of my native state, and happy to live here.  In my humble opinion, and with no attempt to be objective, Oklahoma is one of the best kept secrets in the country.  Some of the best people in the world live here, and they are my neighbors and friends.

One of the proudest moments for me as an Oklahoman, was soon after the 2008 election when the news reported that Oklahoma had been the only state in which all the counties, all 77 of them, went for McCain/Palin.  It was a small consolation, and I was glad I lived in such a smart and sensible state.  [BTW, take a good look at that electoral map in the link; just looking at that it's hard to understand how Obama won.  It doesn't appear that he 'won' the bulk of the nation.  But, numbers don't lie, and his support was concentrated in large metropolitan areas.]

Now, two years later, I feel that pride again in my state, as we have become only the fourth state in US history to have two women running for governor.  Oklahoma will definitely have her first woman governor come January 2011.

And I must say, that the Democrat candidate seems to be a decent person and fairly moderate in her views, but has taken no firm stand against the extreme federal intrusion into the lives of Oklahomans, and Americans everywhere.   Mary Fallin, who currently serves Oklahoma as a Congresswoman fighting against Nancy Pelosi every day, won the GOP gubernatorial primary, and is off and running with enthusiasm and energy, with strong conservative values and a voting record to prove it.  She understands what the Constitution says, and I believe she will ‘support, defend, and uphold’ both the US Constitution and the Oklahoma constitution.

Mary Fallin has been heartily endorsed by Sarah Palin, and is counted by Gov. Palin as one of her “mama grizzlies.”

I’d like to share with you an interview that one of our Oklahoma bloggers was privileged to have with her.  LD Jackson asked great questions, and her answers were clear and thankfully free of politi-speak.  She simply answered the questions.

Hop over to Political Realities, to read a good interview with a great woman who will be very good for Oklahoma.

And the land we belong to is grand!”

You are absolutely right. Oklahoma is one of the best kept secrets in the United States. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

As for Mary Fallin, I think she will make a great Governor, even though she does have her detractors. Thanks for linking to my interview.

Being the reddest of all the red states is something to be very proud about. I also think Fallin will be a fine governor, and I am completely relieved not to have to worry about another Edmondson.

I am behind you 110% Mary….we met when I was the Mayor of Poteau back in the early nineties. I was on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma MunicipalLeague and you cam to our headquarters in OKC and talked with us. I was very impressed with then and still am. I have a pretty good background in advertising, promotions and communications, if I can help you would love to do so. I worked for Senator Randy Brogdon when he kicked of his campaign in 2009. In fact he came to Poteau on May 18, 2009 and brought with him a form for me to use to swithc from Democrat to Republican. I helped Randy a lot by contacting radio, TV and newspapers prior tohis going to evens around the state.

LD, you’re welcome, I was glad to share it, you did a great job with the questions.

Maggie, thanks for coming by and we’re in total agreement on Edmondson.

Diamond Don,
Thanks for coming by. This blog is not affiliated with Fallin’s campaign, but I will forward your comment and offer to them.

You know Pup, I’ve never lived in a Red State… rust belt and California instead. I’m jealous… there’s GOOD people in Oklahoma, and I’ve been down your way a couple times… nice country.

Fallin? Rhymes with “Palin”- sounds like a winner from where I’m standing!
