The Man Who Says Nothing

by Pup on June 3, 2009

This past Sunday, Dr. George Tiller, known for being one of three doctors in America who would “perform” late-term abortions [read: kill babies that were past the legally established age of viability--the age of many of the babies I take care of in the NICU] was shot and killed.  Dr. Tiller, who was acting as an usher at his church at the time, was allegedly killed by a man with suspected ties to anti-government fringe extremist groups, and is a fervent opponent of abortion.

Within hours, Obama had this to say:

“I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning.  However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.”

Attorney General Eric Holder also spoke out Sunday afternoon:  “The murder of Doctor George Tiller is an abhorent act of violence, and his family is in our thoughts and prayers at this tragic moment.  The Department of Justice will work to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice.”

Holder also announced that he had ordered U.S. marshalls out to protect other abortion clinics and providers in the wake of this murder.

The very next day, Monday, two soldiers were shot outside a recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas, as they took a break.  Pvt. William Long, of Conway, Arkansas, died a short time later from his injury.

Young William, 23, was in uniform, serving our country, on American soil.  His alleged shooter is a convert to Islam, and has stated that his intent was to kill US soldiers.

Later Monday afternoon, Obama had this to say about Pvt. Long’s killing:

Nothing.

Then, on Tuesday, he said this about the murder of William Long, an American soldier, on American soil, by a Muslim convert:

Nothing.

No denouncements.  No condolences to the family.  No assurances that we will not tolerate this.

Nothing from Attorney General Holder either.  No promises “to bring the perpetrator to justice.”  No US marshalls sent out to recruiting stations around the country.

Synonyms for “character” are “integrity, honor, moral strength, moral fiber, rectitude, uprightness, fortitude.”

I see none of these qualities in our new president.

I’ve believed for over a year that he is a shallow man, consumed only with the desire for power.  But this, this small incident of saying nothing about the tragic killing of a young American soldier at a recruiting station in Arkansas, tells far more about the man who says nothing than anything else we’ve seen up to now.

This man says nothing about Pvt. Long, but travels all around the world, hat in hand, to apologize for all of us, to apologize for America, and the ‘terrible things we’ve done in the past.’

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the family of William Long.  I thank him, and them, for his service and sacrifice, for his willingness to serve and protect this country.

Aristotle said, “Character is that which reveals moral purpose, exposing the class of things a man chooses and avoids.”

Mr. Obama reveals his moral purpose, and exposes his choices to us everyday.  May more and more Americans begin to pay close attention.

As much as I am opposed to what Obama and his appointees stand for, I am STILL shocked that he would so blatantly shun the public comment on this topic. It’s been so long now, that whatever he say won’t matter a hill of beans. I hope the families don’t pick up on it, bc they don’t need anything else to deal with in their grief and hurt.

Love your site!

Great post Pup!

The organization, Secure Arkansas, is holding a rally for the troops at the scene of the murder Thursday at 4:00 pm. We wish to show the troops that, even if their CIC won’t support them by acknowledging this tragedy, the American public will.

For more on the rally see EMERGENCY ALERT!! RALLY TO SUPPORT THE TROOPS!!

God bless all who wear, or have worn, the uniform and their families for the sacrifices they make so we may all be free.

Prayers for and condolences to the families of Long and Ezeagwula.

Thanks to both of you for your comments. Appreciate that. He finally did say something today, and you’re right MM, it is completely meaningless.

Thanks to you too John, for posting about the rally for the troops. I will spread the word too. And thank you too, for reminding me about Quinton Ezeagwula, who was injured in the same attack. I’m sorry I neglected to mention him in my post.

Great read, as usual, Pup…someone has to remember the soldiers…

Thanks for dropping in, Pup! I wish he had decided to say “nothing” in the Mid-East! No such luck.

I’m wondering if anyone knows how Ezeagwula is doing?

Pardon me for being sarcastic, but what would you expect from a president who grovels at the feet of foreign dictators and apologizes “Americas Attitude”. He definitely has his priorities in the wrong place.

Thanks Kathy. And G., you may be as sarcastic as you wish here. I know your heart. Our new president has all the wrong priorities, as do all those he has surrounded himself with. Chicago thug/gang style politics. It’s all politics with them; no care at all about what’s good for the country.
