As a bipartisan detester (if there be such a word) of the DC scum I have to wonder where Mr. McNaughton was when the Patriot Act or the first multi-billion dollar bailout were set into motion? Or do only the sins of the left count? Just asking.
Sneed, I have no idea. If you decide to visit his website and ask him about that, please report back to us. My own hypothesis is based entirely upon my own personal experience with becoming more involved and educated in political workings: I wasn’t entirely happy with the Patriot Act either, and was very much against the first bailout. But, I wasn’t as aware or awake as I should have been. I can’t undo that. All I can do is go forward from this moment on.
And no, not just the sins of the left count. Left or right or independent, if they don’t uphold their oath to protect and defend the Constitution, they are wrong.
it’s so funny, i just purchased a print of his work on Friday, and now he’s all over the web!! Cool!
in response to sneed, maybe there’s a reason why George W is over to the left, but looking to the other side. kind of like, ‘ hey don’t i belong over there?’
you will notice dems to the right of some of the repubs.
it’s interesting and intriguing to look at.
What Mr. McNaughton really means is somewhat open to interpretation but he has what seems to be the entire gaggle of past presidents looking askance and zero. Those looking askance obviously include W, Lincoln and FDR, three of the most aggressive pre-zero trashers of the Constitution. So what’s the point? That zero is the worst of a bad lot? That the others all repent now that they’re out of office? MY point is that the Rs thrive on pretending they’re not part of the same game whereas, in actual fact, the differences are so slight as to be mostly invisible. The fictional conversation below, and I forget the source but it was not me, provides an excellent illustration:
“Well, who are you going to vote for? McCain? Or Obama? And what about the Senate and House races? You haven’t even followed them…”
“I’m voting the party line…”
“Which party?”
“Republican, of course. I know. I know. They’ve erred and strayed like lost sheep. But at least they’re in favor of low taxes. Or, at least, they say they are in favor of low taxes and lower spending. They may end up spending even more taxes, for all I know. But the Republicans tend to be a disaster by accident. The Democrats are a disaster by choice.”
Of course, they’re both still disasters and I end with this question: would the R party establishment prefer the reelection of zero or the election of Ron Paul?
Whereas the painting has a very good message, I couldn’t possibly pay money for it. Jon McNaughton is a strong Mormon and a big portion of the proceeds from his paintings go to the Mormon organization. No thanks, I’ll support something more biblical.
