The Death Book For Veterans

Many people thought Sarah Palin was over the top with her “death panels” comment.  (I didn’t.)  Jim Towey has written a most interesting article in the Wall Street Journal about the “Death Book,” a 52-page document published in 1997 that was used within the Veterans Administration under Clinton, discontinued under Bush, and has now been reinstated under Obama.  A July 2009 directive instructs primary physicians at VA hospitals to refer their patients to “Your Life, Your Choices” for help in making their end-of-life decisions.

Chilling.  Sickening.  Revolting.  Abhorrent.

My father uses the VA for some of his medical services; not all, or even most, thankfully.  If we are ever there and are approached by someone with this book in their hands for my father to read, that book will be thrown out into the hallway as fast as I can get my hands on it.

And that’s the truth.
