Any of you who are an employee of a mid- to large-sized company, including myself, know that a business is not run as a democracy. There is no voting on company rules; you have to abide by the Human Resources policies. The managers and supervisors don’t work for you, you are subordinate to them. They and you work for the boss, whomever that may be. The boss has the ultimate say over what goes on in the company.
Our Congress has somehow gotten the impression that the United States is one big company, and they are the bosses. They do a lot of infighting among themselves to be the top boss, but they seem to all agree that they run the show, the show being America.
With the exception of a very very few, our senators and representatives no longer act on our behalf, carrying out the wishes of the citizens they represent. Nor have they kept true to the oath they each swore to uphold and protect the Constitution. This morning I heard a story related by a caller to Laura Ingraham’s radio program. The caller had crossed paths with Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) in an airport Sunday morning, after the Saturday night vote on cloture for the health care reform bill.
This caller, an articulate young man, had approached the senator and told him that he had let down many Nebraskans who had been counting on him to vote against a government-takeover of health care. According to the caller, Sen. Nelson had told him that the American people “just didn’t understand the bill, that it was too complicated for the American people to understand.”
The caller appropriately then told Mr. Nelson that if it was too complicated for the American people to understand, then probably he (the Senator) shouldn’t be voting on it.
They think we’re stupid.
These congressmen and women apparently believe that they are above us, in intellect, in wisdom, and just plain overall quality. They are just better than the vast unwashed, of which I am proud to be a part.
They do not work for us, and it doesn’t matter that we believe know they do, they will continue on their path of massive expansion of government–which was NEVER the vision of the Founding Fathers (and Mothers) of this country–until we teach them that they are wrong.
For whether they remember it or not, we are the boss of these people. We can hire them, and we can fire them. One year from now, November 2010, it is my fervent hope that many, if not most of them receive their notice of job termination.
Our employees are just not working out. We gave them a chance, but they have failed.
It’s time for them to start lining up new jobs, and clean out their lockers.

I have a pink sticky note pad…and have seriously been contemplating sending my two senators (Durbin and the other guy-name escapes me at the moment) LITERAL “pink slips”. Great post, PUP. Love the story about Ben Nelson and the young man.

The major problem, with credit to the Who: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The wretched and sniveling republicans had control of both houses of congress and the WH for six years and let’s not forget what they did with it. Given the chance they will do it again. The only real progress can be at the state level. For dc, just root for gridlock.
Yes, they think we are all stupid. This administration scares me like no other. I thought Jimmy Carter was the worst. I’m thinking this one will out do that administration by leaps and bounds.
Have a terrific day.

I had a debate with the owner of a local vineyard this past weekend. (Said debate ruined what could have been a lovely wine tasting; we won’t go back.)
He declared himself a very liberal Democrat to anyone who would listen, then started to pick a fight about healthcare with any who would respond to him. I had not said anything about my politics as I don’t think a wine tasting the appropriate place but…never one to back off a challenge I allowed him to engage me.
It was infuriating to say the least. Head-in-the-sand, unaware of the true impact of the healthcare being ramrodded thru. Completely clueless about what it all means – and content to stay that way.
When I observed, more than once, that not one person in Congress has indicated that they read the legislation they were voting on, and observing also that I find it unconsionable that they wouldn’t read it, the vineyard owner’s response was – Well I’m sure they’ll read it eventually.
I was gobsmacked. When I pointed out that it would probably be a good idea for the people voting on it to know what’s in it, he just shrugged and tried to dodge the issue by claiming that because I’m a conservative I don’t care about people (or words to that effect). I told him point blank in a room full of people that it’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I don’t think Congress knows what it’s doing.
And these are the kinds of people that have put this country in peril. These idiots voted for Obama and his minions. 2010 needs to see some serious changes or this country is heading down a painful and frightening path.

….and I like the term “gobsmacked”. Interesting word.

Kathy – isn’t it a great word?! Wish I could take credit for it, but it’s a Brit term. Means “flabbergasted, astounded, shocked”. And it sounds SO much better than any of those words.

I like “gobsmacked” too! Think I’ll start using it. Thanks Kris.
And thanks too for sharing that story about your encounter with the ostrich (head-in-sand) liberal. I can just imagine myself in the same position. Actually, I’ve been in a similar position, and it is so very frustrating–they don’t know about anything that I hear about on a regular basis. Yet, they continue on as if I hadn’t spoken. No curiosity, no moment of “hmm, maybe I should find out about that” for them.
Kathy, I think you should send those pink slips. You could just write “YOU’RE FIRED!” on them, and give the ‘last day of work’ as whatever day their term ends early in 2011. Or just write on it, “I’m voting to fire you in 2010.” I’d do that to mine, but mine are some of the good ones.
Thanks all of you for your comments.
Actually, Pup, I thought just the color might speak for itself….???!!!

Kathy, you’re absolutely right. You don’t have to write a thing on them, just the fact that they’re pink. I say, go for it!
