I finally figured it out. It hit me today all of a sudden, when I was reading a post on another site by a young lady who identifies herself as a liberal, and is a dear friend of mine. I’ve known her all her life, and she’s a good and decent person who I suspect thinks she is a liberal because she doesn’t really know what ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ means.
The actual post she wrote isn’t important. It was just one of those meaningless tweets about her plans for the evening, in which she specifically mentioned that she would be partying with “whites and [another race]” and that it would be lots of fun. Then I remembered another comment made to me a while back by another liberal friend of mine in which she made a comment about the race of some of the people she would be socializing with at a wedding shower. Nothing disparaging, exactly, just made it sound like she was very aware of it.
Both of these comments left me momentarily stunned, and at a loss for words. And then today it hit me why we conservatives are consistently painted as racist: we don’t identify all our social contacts by their race.
I don’t identify my neighbors, my fellow church members, my work friends, my real-life friends, or my business contacts by their race. Their racial identity doesn’t even enter into it. Oh, I don’t mean that I ignore their race, and we’ve had great discussions about race and politics. We can have those discussions because we share a love of America and a belief in conservative ideals and values, and understand how the radical left uses race to gain and retain power.
The radical left knows that we conservatives aren’t racist, not as a group. There will always be racist individuals from across the entire spectrum of politics, and I suspect many currently hold positions of power in the federal government. But as a group, generally speaking, which is how the Left always speaks, we conservatives are not racist.
The radical left knows that, but must convince the uninformed ‘liberal’ masses that we are racist. They use lies and deceit to accomplish this, but we also innocently assist by not making the kind of posts and statements like my ‘liberal’ friends do, in which they almost always have to include the racial make-up of whatever group they’re associating with for any given occasion. So our liberal friends and acquaintances don’t think we ever associate in any way with members of other races than our own.
I don’t write posts like the one my sweet uninformed misguided young friend wrote.
I don’t have ‘black’ or ‘hispanic’ or ‘asian’ neighbors, church family, or friends.
I just have good neighbors, a wonderful church family, and great friends.

I agree with you. It’s a ploy to quiet the right and it’s just not working anymore. Your friend is trying to let you know just how tolerant she is. You are right on the money here.
Ditto here. I am always amazed at how eager the left is to identify the racial make-up of their various social events – as if to show how tolerant they are by calling attention to people for things other than personality, interesting job, etc…
What I do find funny is people like Janeane Garafolo – who told us we are racists because we didn’t vote for Obama. And now she’s disappointed with him and his administration … so does that now make her a racist?
This is a case where what is good for them isn’t the same for us. If we, as conservatives, called attention to the race of our social gatherings we’d be called on the carpet for it – in no time at all.
Great post Pup. I heard something awhile back…can’t remember right now exactly who said it…the only person concerned about race IS a racist. Sounds about right to me. I can’t imagine myself saying I was going to hang out with whatever race my friends might be.
As to the differing standards that Kris refers to…that’s because the right does lay claim to having morals…where sadly the far lefties do not; therefore, when they “sin” it’s no big deal…but when someone claiming morals “sins”…it’s a really BIG deal.
It should all come out ok in the end…since there is still a God in heaven Who looks upon the affairs of men…
I agree, I don’t care what their race or color is. If they will treat me with respect and dignity, I’ll do the same for them.
Pup, you’re absolutely right. There are folks out there that use their so-called post-racial acceptance of others as leverage to gain their own acceptance and belittle everyone else who isn’t as much of a clanging gong. When, in fact, if the libs cared about equality, they’d be screaming more about abolishing divisive institutions such as Affirmative Action and the NAACP.
Off topic…As I know you’re a fan of Sarah Palin’s, please consider sending your readers to Jim Hoft’s (at BigGovernment.com) recent post (or my own which references his) calling for drafting Sarah as RNC Chair. I signed the petition, and hope your readers would want to, too.
Also, waaaaaay off topic, if that’s you in the barrel riding pic, I say, “giddy up.”
Jeff
What gets me is how Obama got elected while claiming to be “post racial”… exactly the true colorblind society we conservatives want in this country.
That’s what makes Obama’s intentionally dishonesty on this issue all the more appalling- not only has he not delivered on that promise from day one, he’s actually acted quite racist himself at times… not to mention all his screwed-up friends and allies
Pup,
Also directly related to the topic, I just read Leigh Scott’s article on Mel Gibson (bighollywood.com). Mr. Scott is saying very much the same thing and that the more dispicable acts are those instances of, as he says, “the soft bigotry of low expectations.”
And this entertaining tidbit:
“Janeane Garofalo dismisses Tea Party criticism of the president by claiming that it is 100% based on race. By merely looking at Obama as a “black man,” she is completely ignoring his many achievements. How insulting is it to ignore his years of work? To completely brush over his numerous failures, misdirections, and overall cluelessness is beyond cruel. It takes hard work and conviction to be that lame. Making it about race undermines the man’s actions and character.”
Thought you’d enjoy…

All your comments are so good, thanks! I’m so glad we’ve all noticed this. Thanks Jeff, for the heads-up on the petition, I’ll check that out and will be sure to help pass the word. (And no, that’s not me barrel racing, though I always wanted to; had some friends who did, and it’s till my 2nd favorite event at the rodeo. Bullriding first of course.
)
Thanks too Jeff, for the link. Appreciate that.
Thanks again, all of you, we should be running the country.
Good stuff Pup, linked at RR today-

I am not sure that I have heard this, but it could be that I was not listening. I will pay more attention to this to see.
I find it very odd indeed that someone would say I am going out with ……….people tonight. It would never occur to me to mention race in this type of discussion.
JACG, it is odd. Which is why I hear it. I didn’t want to be specific in my post on the off chance that those friends might someday read my blog. It’s isn’t that they said, “I’m going to dinner tonight with blacks and whites,” it was more on the line of, “going to a shower tomorrow, I’ll probably be the only white person there.” The other comment had to do with having dinner with whites and mexicans, that it would be a social experiment. And no, I’m sure it would never occur to you to mention race when talking about who you’re having dinner with; it wouldn’t occur to me either, which was the point of my post.
