My Patriotic Cell Phone

by Conservative Pup on April 30, 2009

It’s very tempting to feel powerless over the “hopeless change” being thrust upon America these days.  We can see it happening, and we who read history and/or have lived history, can also see where it is taking us.  We don’t want our country to become a socialist democracy, which is just a step or two away from a socialist totalitarian state.  Yet, it just plows on, each day bringing a new policy or bill signed into law that curbs individual liberty and enhances government control of all things.

So, what can we do?  At the most basic level, if nothing else, we can continue to call and write our representatives.  Federal, state, local–it is our right, our privilege, and our duty to remind them that they serve because they were elected by the people, and they can continue to serve, if that be their wish, only at the decision of the people.

It is imperative that all of us do our part in this battle for America.  We, all of us, can do that simplest thing, which is make a call to our senators, our congressmen/women, and leave our comment with the staffer answering the phone.

Does it do any good?  I think it does.  But one thing I do know for sure, if I don’t make a call, then that definitively does no good.  I like to picture one hundred thousand others, just like me, who are thinking to themselves, ‘I should really call about that, but what good is my one call going to make?’

I envision that if I make the call, all those other people will too.

Those who would “fundamentally change” America, and have expressly told us repeatedly that that is their intention, are organized.  We must be too, and be disciplined.  Saving the country from socialism will not be an easy thing, for they have a foothold like never before.  But it is very easy to call one’s elected officials.

First, go here, enter your zip code and you’ll be taken to a page that gives you all your elected officials, on all levels.  You can then click on each name for all pertinant information including contact information.  When I used it, I had to click through to a second page for “full contact information” which included all relevant phone numbers.

Second, and this is very important, put these senators and representatives and their phone numbers in your cell phone address book.  Or, if you don’t use your cell phone as much as I do, write them down on a small card that you can keep handy.  I like having them in my cell phone, because that way, if I am out running errands or traveling, and I hear about something on the news that I want to call about, I can do it right then.  I tend to be forgetful and a champion procrastinator, and before I put them in my cell phone, there were many times that I intended to make a call, but forgot once I returned home.

This has made all the difference for me.  I call fairly often, (I’m probably on some list of some sort) and I can call as soon as the notion strikes.

It’s a small thing, perhaps, but calling and leaving a comment or thanking them for a particular vote is the only way they will know my views and wishes.  I can at least do that much for my country.

So can we all.  “Just do it!”, as Nike says.  You’ll be proud of yourself.
