Legislators Legislating Blindly….

by Conservative Pup on July 29, 2009

Do you think this guy is alone in his thinking?  Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) shares his wisdom.

So I ask, are we the taxpayers, who pay his salary, getting our money’s worth?  Are we getting an honest day’s work for an honest day’s salary?

I’m a registered nurse, and have been since the mid-seventies.  In my work, I am held to certain standards, set not only by my place of employment, but state licensure restrictions and requirements.  One of my daily duties, happens every shift I work, it to give medicine to patients.  My job description, as written in the Human Resources policy for an RN at my hospital, AND my license requires me to know about the medicine I am administering.

No matter how busy I am, no matter how many other things I must do RIGHT NOW, I must, before giving a medicine, know what it is supposed to do, what the side effects are, what the proper dosage is, and if I am indeed giving the proper dosage.  This is essential for the safety of the patient and for the effective monitoring afterward of ill or helpful effects of the drug.

My employer requires this of me.  My state licensure board requires this of me.  I am risking the loss of my license and my livelihood if I don’t do this.

It’s part of the job.

Why is it not part of the job for these lawmakers to read the laws that they are preparing to enact upon the rest of us?  The only function of legislators is to make law.  Obviously, some of them--I suspect many of them--don’t take this as seriously as I do.  It’s bad enough that they don’t read the bills before they pass them, but to joke about it?  To speak about reading the bill as if it’s ridiculous of anyone to think they should, is grounds for dismissal.

Purely and simply put, any legislator who doesn’t read the bill before making the very important decision to enact it into law, is not doing his or her job.

We, the employers of clowns like Rep. Conyers, should fire them for not doing their job.  When he doesn’t do his job, it hurts us and has life-long consequences for our lives.

Fire them.  And let them know why they’re being dismissed.

Yet something like 85% or more are reelected every time and, in addition, they regularly exempt congress from the egregious garbage they impose on the rest of the country. This system has become too dysfunctional to expect it to ever again function properly until something catastrophic happens and who knows what that will bring.

Term limits.

Yes, it is probably time for term limits. I read something the other day that the Founding Fathers (yes, fathers, there I said it) never intended anyone to stay in office indefinitely…they were to go back into the private sector and live under the laws they had passed….I think that’s a great idea. Great post Pup….I see you have been busy last night and today…off to check out the rest of your posts.
