It seems as if I’ve heard that distinctive and reassuring voice of Paul Harvey all my life. My memories of hearing him on the radio go back to my childhood, when my mother would always make sure to turn on the radio to listen to his program. His “and now you know the rest of the story,” is etched into my brain, and will always be a trigger for good memories.
Though later in my young adult life I didn’t seem to hear his program very often, on those occasions that I would stumble across it at just the right time, I always enjoyed it, and took comfort in his words, and appreciated his humor. I most loved his great love for America. And his uncommon common sense.
Paul Harvey died Saturday, February 28, at the age of 90. I will miss him, and I know my mother will too. She continued to listen to his program long after I had left home. Please visit here for a tribute and memorial to Paul Harvey.
