Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been a lifelong hero of mine. I was 16 when he was killed; I had watched him on the black-and-white TV give speeches that gave me chills, and mourned him along with millions of others. The reading I’ve done over the years about him has only increased my admiration for him, and my regret that his life was cut short.
I’ve been drawn to Dr. Alveda King, his niece, for her connection to MLK and have found her to be worthy of admiration in and of herself. I’ve enjoyed watching her on Glenn Beck’s show.
She has now been criticized by many of those who profit from stirring up racial conflict, for joining Beck Saturday August 28, at the Restoring Honor Rally, where she will deliver a tribute to her uncle.
Shelton, who is the NAACP’s senior vice president for advocacy and policy and Washington, D.C., bureau government affairs director, discounted Alveda King’s importance as a speaker for Beck’s event, saying she’s using the platform to promote her “anti-choice,” or pro-life, agenda. Shelton also said Alveda King isn’t a fit representative of the “I have a dream” message her uncle left for the nation because, he said, she’s “undeniably a very long-term committed Republican and is pro-life.” [emphasis mine]
Here is her reply to them.

What exactly does pro life have to do with anything? Pro life people can’t believe in MLK?
That is the silliest thing EVAH.
To a leftie, pro-life is everything! Just like to a racist, RACE is everything! Harry Reid recently said he absolutely could not conceive of an Hispanic being a Republican. Leftie government dependent black Americans can’t tolerate and do demean other black Americans who are conservatives, who believe in smaller government and taking care of themselves. They call them names like “uncle Tom” (have you heard that one before). They can’t stand it. And Leftie white Americans demean and denigrate everyone who disagrees with them. Watch as things heat up even more heading into these mid-term elections.
My question is why must everyone be tolerant of everything except you don’t have to be tolerant of conservatives. Why is that? Why is it okay to call them names? I just don’t get it. You just can’t have it both ways.
Have a terrific day.
One rally is committed to restoring traditional values: Faith, Hope and Charity — and Duty, Honor and Country. Another rally is designed to churn up hatred based on race.
One focuses on the moral high ground and the other does not.
Rev. Sharpton, like his champion, barack hussein obama, is a community organizer/agitator who makes his living by passing the plate. 3,000 people showed up at his event and somewhere approaching a quarter million showed up at the other.
Thanks all for your comments. I agree with each of you. I watched the Restoring Honor rally in its entirety, and JACG, I know you attended it. I then tried to watch my dvr tape of Sharpton’s rally; could only take about an hour, and that was with speeding through the speakers once I had listened to the first few minutes and heard only anger, vitriol, and insults to “those other people” at the other rally. It is extremely sad to me that so many in the black community are so misled by those who profit from keeping racism alive, and keeping black Americans poor, desperate, and dependent upon government for their bare survival. Our black citizens are indeed still in bondage, and it is due solely to the liberal leftist policies and agenda.
Oh, and LL, welcome! Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment, please come back anytime.
Such an inspirational rally – a shame that our POTUS couldn’t be bothered watching it and instead bashed it on ABC Nightly News.
But I bet his golf swing is improving.
Great post, Pup!
