I think a lot of liberals/leftists/Dems are confusing a basic concept. They confuse equal opportunity with equal outcome. We are not guaranteed equal outcomes by the Constitution. We are assured though, of equal opportunity to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Note the “pursuit of happiness”. There’s no guarantee that we’ll catch happiness, just the opportunity to find it for ourselves on equal footing with everybody else.
We’ve done away with grades on schoolwork, winners and losers in school games, and in some places, valedictory honors in graduating classes. Liberals seem to think it’s a crime for some people to have more things, more money, or a bigger house than other people.
What’s really interesting is that many of the liberals I know are just as possesive of their own things as anybody. They are aware that they worked hard to buy that car, or get new carpet, or finally buy that big screen TV. But they are just as certain that someone needs to take care of those who choose not to work, not to go to college, or not to study if they do go to college. They just want someone else’s money to do the taking-care-of.
I wonder if libs are able to watch football and root for one team to win. Or do they think that the two teams should just play for an hour and then divide up the score equally between themselves? Equal outcome, after all.
I’m looking for a win, myself.

Awesome post, pup. I like your thinking about equal opportunity vs. equal outcome. Our choices affect our outcomes. People who make bad choices (with full freedom to do so) have not so good outcomes and vice versa. The people making good choices should not be required to pay the bill for those who make bad choices; that is not “fair”. Your reference to no grades, no valedictorian, no winners and losers is a true reflections of the indoctrination of “fairness” (i.e. socialism/communism) that is slowly becoming a part of our national consciousness. God help us, and watch the movie Dr. Zhivago if you really want to see a picture of what “fairness” looks like. The government took over all the people’s choices and they way there were to think.
Yes, I too wonder if these people can root for anyone to win the Super Bowl.
I guess my tongue got all garbled up on that one sentence…the government too over all the people’s choices and the way they were to think, is what I meant to say! Oh yeah, and after the word “fairness” in reference to Dr. Zhivago, it should say (communism)! Thanks!
Well you have nailed it here. The Constitution and the Declaration both give every American equal opportunity at those things which we hold most dear. The intent (in my opinion) is that there will be no encumbrances to your opportunity to sow seeds, and you will therefore reap what you have sown.
I was born in the early 60s, at the end of, what I consider, “America’s strongest period” (1930- late 1980s). What made us strong during that time was the struggle, and the will to succeed, each on his own, and each together for his Country. Sometime in the 80s, that began to wane, and suddenly a feeling of guilt was supposed to accompany success….each to his own, but now each to his Society, and not necessarily his Country. Call me crazy and nostalgic, but I’m one of those people who would actually die for this country, gladly. I cannot say the same about the Society in which I live. To me, that is the difference in “then” and “now.” We CAN get back there, but it will take work, sacrifice, and dedication.
That…..and giving the left wing what we here in Alabama affectionately call “a country-boy butt whoopin’ “.
Pup, that first paragraph is beautiful and brilliant. Thank you for sharing it. It is dead-on, and written wonderfully!
